The Albritton Company began in the early 1950's as a wholesale furniture company known as T. E. Johnson & Co. The company started by T. E. Johnson expanded into the Hookerton area in 1956, where our main office is still located today. With the help of his son-in-law, Charles H. Albritton II, Mr. Johnson expanded the business to include manufacturing. The company took on a new name Johnson & Albritton, Inc. Unfortunately, in April 1964, the plant was destroyed by fire and the manufacturing business was lost.
A change in the home building industry between 1965 and 1966 lead to more people using carpet than hardwood floors sparked Charles Albritton's interest. In 1966, with the retirement of T. E. Johnson, The Albritton Company was born as a floor covering business. Due to changes in the wholesale business that part of the company was closed in 1976 and the primary focus became expanding the floor covering side.
In 1982, The Albritton Company's first retail store opened in Greenville, NC and soon after grew to include a commercial division. After the death of Charles Albritton II in 1983, his son Charles Albritton III took over as president of the company. Our second retail store was opened in 1989 in Kinston, NC. September 2001 brought changes for our Commercial Division with the purchase of a Dupont Flooring System franchise. This included opening a Wilmington Commercial office the same year. In early 2003, the commercial division again expanded by opening a new franchise through SaniGlaze Inc. We perform this patented ceramic cleaning system from the Research Triangle Area East.
